Let's get started with this poem from my new favorite book: "Poems of Consciousness, Sisterhood is the key" by Dr. Nkosi K.M. Ajanaku.
AN EAGLE NATION
America is an eagle nation
Raised by a chicken population;
It is not deaf, but it is dumb,
It can hear but can't listen.
It could fly, 'cause it has wings,
But the chicken institutions
Are running things;
Every birth of a child in the nation
Gives rise to hope that the nation
May fly, but none of that hope
Has escaped the rage,
Of the old chickens who are in charge
Of the baby eagle's cage.
